SOG Local Event – Lancing Ring

Lancing Ring Google MapsGoogle EarthMultimap.comMSN Virtual Earth is typical South Downs terrain: rolling chalk hills with lots of pasture and dry grassland, with pockets of scrub rather than forest, with a view of the English Channel a few miles away to the South beyond the low-rise sprawl of homes and light industry that fills the coastal plain. It was very pleasant running around, dipping into thorny, dense thickets, then running in the sunshine across easy grass, but I never really “got into” the map so I made some silly mistakes and rather lost the plot. Some of the controls were surprisingly technical and the course was very fast for most people. It made good use of the area.
I felt that I could have done very much better – “hopeless” was how I described my performance! Still, another SOG green course done in less than an hour. It will soon be time to lower that target again.
