SOG Local Event Rivers Wood (near Balcombe)

Rivers Wood Google MapsGoogle EarthMultimap.comMSN Virtual Earth is a lovely little area with lots of interest. The planner had managed to find 18 control sites for the Green course – which meant lots of technical puzzles, changes of direction and concentration all the way. The crisp, sunny morning made it even more attractive. There was still a little too much bracken and bramble  around but some amazing fungi – especially the bright red with white spots ones.

I managed to go past the first control – the bracken was still high enough to hide it – but settled reasonably well after that for a fairly unremarkable, competent but not very fast run.  I am still re-learning the skills of running in forest after the parks series – so navigation was OK but a little sloppy.

This was another huge turn-out. Speeds that would have put me in the top ten on the green course last year are producing results in the mid-twenties this.
